MEET DJ BLISS

Beats by Dre has launched a campaign encouraging young adults to go outside for better mental health. Has this initiative influenced your djing lifestyle in any way?

DJ Bliss: This campaign really strikes a chord with me. When I’m DJing my nights are packed with energy, music and dancing, but the hustle and grind can really take a toll on my mental health. I constantly feel like I’m trying to juggle everything all at once, whether that’s coming up with new music, working in a club or studying. So I find that going outdoors has become my haven. it is where I can just step away from everything and recharge and relax my mind. It’s really after this state of relaxation that I find myself being more inspired and able to work more efficiently for both studying for uni and making new beats

How do you include Beats headphones in your outdoor regime?

DJ Bliss: I never leave the house without my Beats headphones they are constantly with me. It doesn’t matter what activity I’m doing that day whether I’m hiking or simply having a stroll in a park or even just a walk around London, the headphones really elevate my entire experience. This is especially because of the immersive sound quality and the noise control features that help me to detach myself from the loud and noisy city and instead connect and tune into the nature that London has to offer its as if I’m creating my very own soundtrack.

What do you think is the importance of embracing the outdoors, especially for younger people and the benefits of this on their mental health?

DJ Bliss: Because of the advancement of technologies the youth of today have become very dependent on their phones exetra which has led them to be constantly plugged in. Making it very easy to become overwhelmed, therefore going outside and getting some fresh air gives them a much-needed break from screens and deadlines. This allows them to destress, reflect, and value nature’s beauty around them. Doing this will really maintain stability in this fast-paced digital age.

Can you tell me about a moment were going for a walk/run/hike was essential for your mental health at the time?

DJ Bliss: I remember this one time I had a gig in Brighton and not a lot of things were going the way I planned so it was extremely stressful especially because of traveling I forgot some essential equipment I needed and the gig itself was pretty intense. So after I finished my last set I decided instead of heading home, to go to the beach and have a stroll next to the waves with my beats on. The combination of the soothing waves and my favourite songs was just what I needed, I felt extremely rejuvenated and balanced.

Lastly, do you see this campaign having an effect on the music industry itself and how artists approach their mental health?

DJ Bliss: I truly believe this is a game-changer for the industry. This campaign is not about selling speakers, earbuds and headphones; it is about promoting a culture of well-being within the music industry and not just this it allows us to start a healthy conversation about the importance of mental health in youth. As artists, musicians and creators we often neglect our mental health in pursuing our dreams and passions. Beats’s message is that taking care of our mental health is as important as creating the next big hit.

This is a university project for my Web Design class 🙂
