Whats it all about ?

Free frisbee, food and an opportunity to talk and meet like-minded people. The breath of fresh air London’s youth need.

Fris-Free, the summer motive everyone’s talking about. This summer the parks of London are going to be turned into community spaces for young people to meet up and socialise outside. The event has been organised by a group of friends who have recognised an increase in social media usage and wanted to create a social space outside where young people can escape from their phones. The event’s sponsor will be providing all the frisbees as well as t shirts and food so all you need to do is bring yourself and a few friends and leave the rest up to the organisers!

Living in London can be a blessing and a curse at a time. Life moves fast here, sometimes you need to look around to remind yourself that there’s more to London than daunting large buildings and mindless business folk. Amongst the concrete desert lie some of the best natural paradises in the uk. London is home to countless parks stretching out for miles, the heath in Hampstead even has wild deer which roam around. Fris-Frees’ main goal is for young people to disconnect to reconnect. The links between spending time in nature and one’s happiness are major. This summer we’re saying put your phones down and pick up a Frisbee, and no not just because you won’t be able to catch a frisbee if you’re on your phone but because it’s fun! Fris-Free is a stress-free zone which is accessible to anyone between the ages of 16-24, no previous skills are required!

it’s easy to get sucked into social media, especially comparing yourself to celebrities, friends and just random strangers that may end up on your feed. Fris-Free stands to put a stop to this. Social media is great…. for somethings but recent studies show that by reducing your daily screen time you are boosting your mood tremendously. It’s when you start allowing social media to dictate your mood you may need to step away for a bit.

“The antidote to exhaustion isn’t rest. It’s nature.” – Shikoba

The reality is that for young people social media can be alienating and toxic. There are many reasons for this but the main ones are cyberbullying and self-comparison. In a world which is already obsessed with the image of success being Lamborghini and endless designer clothes, social media amplifies this which for young people can be extremely stressful. As a generation, we are already bombarded by social expectations on a daily, whether that’s doing well academically or making sure that you’re at the pub for five on the dot it’s stressful. During Lockdown the country saw a major decrease in time spent outdoors which unsurprisingly resulted in a major increase in social media usage by 76%.

Fris-Free starts at the first weekend of July across parks in London, remember it’s free all you need is to bring good energy and good people!
