smash and recycle

The process of recycling glass typically involves the following steps:

1.Collection: Glass bottles and jars are collected from recycling bins and curbside recycling programs, and transported to a recycling center.

2.Sorting: At the recycling center, glass is sorted by color (clear, green, and brown) using a machine or by hand. The sorted glass is then cleaned to remove any impurities such as paper, plastic, or food residue.

3.Crushing: The cleaned glass is then crushed into small pieces called cullet. This can be done manually or with the help of a machine.

4.Melting: The cullet is melted in a furnace at high temperatures, typically around 1,500 degrees Celsius. Once melted, the glass can be formed into new products such as bottles, jars, or fiberglass.

5.Molded: The melted glass is poured into molds to shape it into the desired form. It can also be blown into new bottles or jars.

6.Cooling: The newly formed glass products are then cooled slowly to prevent them from cracking or shattering.

Final, quality control: The finished glass products are inspected for quality to ensure they meet industry standards.

Our event idea

Activities: Invite a famous environmental campaigner to lead an environmental campaign for green spaces around the city, especially in relation to glass recycling. We will introduce the basic principles of glass recycling, and at the end of the day we will focus on breaking the bottles inside, with special rewards if we find a Smirnoff bottle, and also arrange a treasure hunt to be incorporated into the event so that everyone can enjoy their free time and the outdoors while doing good.

Difficulties: smashing bottles and outdoor safety issues.

Costs: guest invitation costs, bottle recycling costs, transport, prize costs.
